PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 5960, Radio Fly, 1301-1406, June 5. Much better reception today; both PBS Xinjiang (mostly talking in Chinese) and Radio Fly took turns dominating here and mixing together; non-stop
music; mostly pop songs in English (Air Supply with “I’m All Out of Love”, etc.); no break at BoH; 1402-1404 announcers; back to non-stop music. Had no problem today positively confirming that this is // 3915.
Seems this one hour window has the best reception for me, as it is just after my local sunrise at 1249. Found reception was better on my E5, rather than on the E1.

May 2010 broadcast
This ( 6th June ) morning/afternoon FRS-Holland is attempting to repeat last week’s broadcast in full on 7600 kHz 07.52- 12.50 UTC. Last week’s reception conditions were appalling and of course both listeners and station staff were disappointed about the results. Today we hope we can make up a bit for the disastrous broadcast of last week.
Propagation still is quite poor, if the results are once again very poor we might cease before the end of the broadcast!
Today June 6th in the afternoon FRS will be on the internet (streaming audio) starting at 13.52 UTC lasting 18.50 UTC.

PIRATE (EUROPE)   9280   Mike R.  Set the NRD and MD recorder and recorded in AM mode.  Signal seemed to come on at 0232:27, then Rock mx began about 20 seconds later.  Canned ID anmnt at 0237.  Live voice-over anmnt at 0244 w/ment of USA.  After song was playing for about a minute, hrd another jingle.  Another live anmnt at 0248-0250 over what sounded like “Radar Love”.  Ment of broadcast and e-mail.  Getting slightly better.  Canned ID at 0256, then Rock song I couldn’t recognize.  0300 short live ID “.listening to Mike R.” and e-mail addr, mx briefly, and cont. tlk.  More of the same.  Not very strong, but there with a lot of static noise.  Towards 0330, I thought the signal faded, but it turned out Mike changed freq to 9260 to avoid splatter from 9305 which I also was getting.  (24 May)

COSTA RICA   5954.17  ELCOR xmtr  0346 LA Pops at t/in.  Nonstop mx to 0405, deadair, then signal off at 0406:06.  Good signal w/adjacent slop QRM.  Apparently still testing.  (24 May)

BOLIVIA   4409.81  R. Eco  Seemed like nx pgm hosted by M at 0017.  Long ad block at 0020-0028 w/second by W in heavy echo.  0026 M returned w/TC and tlk.  Nice canned ID w/”4,410 khz” freq (including meterband) by M over piano mx at 0039 during break in tlk by live M.  Unfortunately it was ruined by buzzsaw-like UTE QRM.  Into nonstop mx at 0042 going past ToH.  Dropped off after 0100.  Sounded like the same ID at 0145, again ruined by the UTE.  Then off at 0146*.  Best hrd in a long time.  (30 May)

MEXICO   6104.77  Candela FM  Nice signal at 1044 w/LA Pops.  Dropped off quickly in the next 5 minutes.  Rapid-tlking live W host at 1050, same as hrd in the past.  TC and ment of Mexicana at one point.  Canned anmnt at 1100, but impossible due to weakening signal and slop QRM from adjacent channel.  (30 May)

The Management of Star Radio has announced the re-activation of its shortwave service. The entity?s Station Manager James Morlu disclosed the institution has begun test transmitting on its shortwave service. Mr. Morlu did not state the length of coverage of the new shortwave service, but said it creates a medium to interact with more listeners. According to him, the frequency of the shorwave is 4.025 MHz. He believes as the country strives towards its recovery process, it was prudent to have a viable information dissemination channel like the shortwave.

The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) has begun emergency coverage from an area in the north of the country where a lake could overflow, the Daily Times reports. Radio Pakistan has planned to install a transmitter in the area on an emergency basis.

MYANMAR. 7200.0, Myanma Radio, ex: 7185.75v, 1322, May 25. In vernacular; at 1330 became // 5915 and the start of lectures provided by the Minorities and Distance Learning Services. Much better audio than former frequency, as this only had one audio feed, instead of two different audio feeds at the same time, which I assume was due to former frequency being from Yangon and 7200 being from Naypyidaw; fair, but pre-1300 Korea dominates. I know Myanmar operates this frequency during other time periods, but this is the first time I have heard them here!
May 24 was the first day that 7185.75v was missing.

Bangladesh Betar and China Radio International (CRI) signed a three year agreement on May 17, 2010 under which Bangladesh Betar will re-broadcast CRI Bengali program everyday at 1830 – 1930 BST (1230-1330 UTC) on 103.2 MHz FM in Dhaka and 105.4 MHz FM in Chittagong simultaneously. English program of CRI will also be re-broadcast everyday at 1730 – 1830 BST (1130-1230 UTC from Dhaka station on 103.2 MHz FM.

For the re-broadcast service, Bangladesh Betar will earn about US$ 50,000.00 annually. CRI will provide technical assistance to Bangladesh Betar & will also extend training facilities for employees of Bangladesh Betar.
Md. Mahbubul Alam, DG Bangladesh Betar and Mr. Wang Yu, Political Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Dhaka signed the agreement. High officials of Ministry of Information and Bangladesh Betar were present on the occasion.

Continues to have mostly fair reception via long path; Shiokaze’s Yamata (Japan) transmitter on at 1359 and into English (it’s Wednesday) at 1400; Madagascar still faintly heard under Shiokaze. MALAYSIA. 5964.92v, Klasik Nasional FM via RTM, 1306, May 25. MYANMAR. 7200.0, Myanma Radio, 1249-1330*, May 26. Korea signed-off at 1249 (after their Anthem). In vernacular with EZL pop songs. Believe we will find their usual sign-off will be 1330, with occasional anomalies such as yesterday going past 1342. Spectrum research here in Melbourne has revealed that long distance propagation has now appeared in the noon window, in the period 0100 to 0300, on 6 MHz.

This heralds the arrival of the winter daytime propagation mode, an annual occurrence, which offers marvellous opportunities for studying propagation on these band during the present period of very low solar activity.

A preliminary examination of spectrum occupancy on 6 MHz on May 27 revealed shortpath propagation from Europe, Middle East, and Africa, and longpath from the Americas in the period 0100 to 0145 (11 am to 11.45 am).

At about 0200 (noon), longpath from Europe, Middle East and Africa, and shortpath from the Americas had become the dominant mode, which continued throughout our afternoon.

This pattern will be sustained during our winter months, up to the end of July.

At noon in Melbourne, on May 26, the sun’s azimuth at noon was down to 30.2 degrees. The lowest noon azimuth will be 28.8 degrees on 17 to 26 June.

Solar transit on May 26 in Melbourne was 0217 (2.17pm)

Our latest sunrise occurs on June 28 to June 30, at 2137 (7.37 am) and pit earliest sunset will be on June 9 to June 17 at 0707 (5.07 pm).

These factors significantly influence HF propagation during our daytime period in our winter months on 5 MHz to 12 MHz.

Bolivia, 5952.41, Radio Emisoras Pio XII, 1025-1035, Noted a threshold audio signal of a female in Spanish language comments.  Very difficult to hear due to extreme fading.  I had checked this earlier (1005) and it wasn’t on the air or hadn’t faded in yet?  By 1031 all I could hear was the carrier since the audio had faded into the noise.  (Chuck Bolland, May 13, 2010)

CLANDESTINE. 6135, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze via Yamata, *1400-1430*, May 14. Was a very unusual Friday for Shiokaze; in Korean instead of the usual English; completely different format with a long talk/speech. Suspect this was probably the result of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights holding meetings with the Japanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, in which she said she is willing to press Pyongyang to resolve abduction issues. I noted one strange news item: “Japan recognizes 17 citizens as having been abducted to North Korea in the 1970s and 1980s. Five of them were repatriated in 2002 but the whereabouts of the others are disputed with the North.”

Russia, 5930, Radio Rossii, 1020-1030,  Noted a male and female in conversation until 1024 when a different individual comments.   Nice to hear Radio Rossii still audible via Petropavlovs… at this time.  Music heard at 1025.  Checked 5940 and heard a parallel signal there with music and talk. Cuba, 5970, Radio Havana Cuba, 1040-1040 Noted a program of Sp music and Spanish comments from a male between tunes.   Noted a parallel signal on 6150 KHz, however 5970 KHz was poor while 6150 was good.  RHC on 5970 is not listed in my current copies of AOKI and EIBI database. Something happened at 1048 with the signal on 5970 as it disappeared, but 6150 stayed on the air.

China, 10300, Firedrake, 1018-1210+,  Noted steady Chinese music without any comments, just music.  Signal was good at this time.   Had checked this prior to 1100 and didn’t copy anything here.  Also heard a parallel signal on 9830 KHz which was audible prior to 1100.  Still waiting for 11100 Khz to fade in. Guyana, 3290, Voice of Guyana, 0942-0950,  Signal still audible but starting to be effected by daylight at their end.  Noted a male in English comments until 0946 when a female begins talking.  At 0947 music is presented.  No other details heard.  Signal was poor.  (Chuck Bolland, May 16, 2010)

Unident, 4875.51, 1005-1030,  Noted a program of steady music, very weak.  The music sounded simular to what is normally heard on RRI stations. Unfortunately, the noise was making the music
difficult to hear.  But at 1015, heard a male in comments and it sounded as if he was speaking Spanish?  So this is a big puzzle.  The frequency is unique, so if it ever comes in better, we’ll
be able to track it.   As time passed, the language sounded very Spanish.  This possibly could be Radio Estambul or Radio La Cruz Del Sur, Bolivia, but don’t take my word for it.  I don’t know the recent history of either of those.   At 1021, flute music is heard.  Signal was threshold and the noise never gave me a break.  (Chuck Bolland, May 16, 2010)

Why not reactivated Rdif. Roraima, Brasil, per several reports on or around this frequency in DXLD 10-18, and also 10-19, as another unID?? Searching recent DXLD issues for an unID frequency could be helpful.

Russia, 5929.99, Radio Rossii, 0908-0930, Noted Russian language comments from both male and
female during the period.  At 0910 some music presented, but only as break in the format.  The
carrier of this station was good, but the audio needed a lot of help.  It was very poor.  What’s

Bolivia, 5952.40, Radio Emisoras Pio XII, 1015-1030, Had trouble tuning this in for a few minutes.  Seemed like there was no audio, eventhough the carrier was reasonably strong.   At about 1020 finally got some audio with two males in Spanish Language comments.  At 1031 thought they were going into music, but was just a couple of bars as far as I could tell.  Anyway, SP comments continued.  Signal was fair. Malaysia, 7295, RTM, Kuala Lumpur, (pres)1040-1100, At tune in heard a female in English(?)
language comments, then music followed that.  Signal was rather weak, so not sure if I heard English.
After a few minutes of music, the female returns in comments.   Still couldn’t be certain about
